چکیده

Deep fascia is formed by a connective membrane that sheaths all muscles. It is devoid of fat, forms sheaths for the nerves and vessels, becomes specialized around the joints to form or strengthen ligaments, envelops various organs [1]. The fascia lata is the deep fascia of the thigh. It is often used as a graft material in a variety of orthopaedic procedures. Autologous nature of this graft eliminates the risk of graft-versus-host reactions [2]. Knowledge of the normal structure and function, chemical content of fascia will help towards a clearer understanding of the pathological changes which can occur [3]. Till now, to the authors’ best knowledge, neither elemental composition nor biomechanical properties of canine fascia lata were subject to detailed analysis. Therefore in this study both facial elemental content and mechanical behaviour were examined.

A biomechanical comparison of fan-folded, single-looped fascia lata with other graft tissues as a suitable substitute for anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to evaluate the initial biomechanical properties of a fan-folded, single-loop construct of fan-folded fascia lata allograft in comparison to other graft tissues currently being used for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. METHODS Eighteen fascia lata specimens were harvested from 11 donors and fan folded through a proprietary process. Bone-pa...

Chemical composition of human and canine fascia lata.

The fascial system is an integral part of the musculoskeletal system. It is a three-dimensional network of connective tissue spreading ubiquitously throughout the body, surrounding muscles, bones, internal organs, nerves, vessels, and other structures. The basic biophysical properties of the fascial system are determined by its structure and chemical composition. This study aimed to determine t...

Tendon Expansion with Fascia Lata in Treatment of A-Pattern Strabismus due to Superior Oblique Overaction

Background: In 1991, Wright described a superior oblique expander procedure for browns syndrome and superior overaction with good results. Originally, this procedure has been performed with silicone band expander. The aim of this study was to report the results of treatment of a series of patients with A-pattern strabismus associated with overacting superior oblique muscle using the fascia lata...

CenoDerm vs. Fascia lata for the Prevention of Dorsal Nasal Irregularities in Rhinoplasty

Introduction: Dorsal nasal irregularity is a complication of rhinoplasty surgery, mostly seen in patients with thin skin. Acellular dermis (CenoDerm) and homologous fascia lata covering the nasal bone cartilage structure have been used to achieve a smooth surface. In this study, we aimed to investigate clinical outcomes using these two materials. Materials and Methods: After a standard rhinopla...

Arthroscopic Hip Labral Reconstruction and Augmentation Using Knotless Anchors.

Biomechanical stability is the primary function of the acetabular labrum. It provides a hip suction seal and optimal joint function. Labral tears are a common reason for hip arthroscopy, to improve patient function and to prevent long-term degenerative arthropathy. Arthroscopic labral repair has shown significantly better outcomes in return to premorbid activity levels when compared with labral...
